All of the back and forth between the Clinton and Sanders campaigns, and their supporters, is really bothering me. All eyes should be kept on the prize: the general election. The candidates should highlight their strengths and make their best case for voters, but going negative isn’t going to win over any new voters and will just hurt the party in the fall.
If, somehow, the Republicans can manage to win the presidency, maintain majorities in both houses of Congress, and appoint Scalia’s replacement it would be a travesty of the highest order.
Complaining about debate scheduling does not advance the progressive agenda.
Attacks related to DNC fundraisers do not advance the progressive agenda.
Sexist attacks do not advance the progressive agenda.
Alienating the youth vote does not advance the progressive agenda.
We can bemoan the two-party system, wish all campaigns were publicly financed, and pray for the repeal of Citizens United, but those things are not going to change before November. We need to work within the system that we have. We need to get out the vote and unite behind the best candidate in each race up and down the ticket.
Refusing to vote is not an act of conscience; it’s a masturbatory act of cowardice.
Get your shit together, Democrats (and Independents).
